A sneak peak at the 2018 Acura TLX

The 2018 Acura TLX is going to be another gem released by Acura, and anyone with an older model can attest to the greatness of the Acura TLX. The refreshed and updated version will not be ready for a while, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t plenty of buzz being generated about this sleek and refined luxury automobile. While not all details have been released, there are a few spy shots that have been leaked.

While the new and improved 2018 Acura TLX is certainly going to create a lot of excitement, the company knows that it better not make too many changes. By keeping the changes subtle, Acura won’t ruffle any feathers, and Acura also plans to keep the MSRP in-line with the 2017 model, but obviously with adds-ons, the price can rise substantially. The base price should be right around $32,000, while the highest-end, fully loaded version should cost around $45,000.

The new, updated front end has some obvious inspiration from the Acura Precision Concept, which was showed off at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show. With the five-sided, open grill, the sedan will enjoy a sportier look. This, along with updated LED headlights, give the TLX a sleeker look than it enjoyed previously. The back has tweaked taillights, which, along with a black lower portion, give a seriously sporty look.

While there have been spy photos taken, other changes are still a mystery, though anyone expecting huge changes in the engine are probably in for a disappointment. The powerful 2.4-liter four-cylinder and 3.5-liter V6 engines that are in current models should stay for the 2018 Acura TLX. There is a chance that Acura will offer hybrid and electric motors, which are now being used in the newest MDX.
Since Acura likes to keep things looking smooth and tech-friendly, expect revised materials in the cockpit. Since the engine sizes probably aren’t going to change much, if at all, drivers should expect gas mileage of around 28 MPG, combined, for the base model with 24 MPG in the city and 35 on highways.

The performance of the 2018 Acura TLX should also be similar when it comes to top speed and 0-60 times. The base engine should provide a 0-60 time of 6.8 seconds, while the bigger engine will likely get you from 0-60 in 5.7 seconds. The top speed for both engines will be 134 MPH. The safety of the 2017 Acura TLX was a mixed bag, as it got a “marginal” rating for the overlap front crash test. But, it received a “good” score in every other category, except for front crash prevention, where it received a “superior” score. Given that Acura prides itself on always improving, there is a good chance that the company will garner higher safety marks for its 2018 model.

If you can wait until the 2018 Acura TLX is shipped to showrooms, you would do yourself a favor if you test drove one out at Chapman Acura. Even if you own an older model, you are sure to notice the, slight, yet important, changes.
