2014-Acura-RLX-1

Acura earned a number of Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s top safety ratings awards for 2014.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, “TOP SAFETY PICK requires good performance in the Institute’s moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. The same level of performance in those tests, along with at least a basic rating for front crash prevention, is required for the higher accolade, TOP SAFETY PICK+.”

Combined with Honda, six models earned TOP SAFETY PICK+, while two earned TOP SAFETY PICK. The awards honor automakers for producing prevention technology for avoiding collisions and providing protection during a collision.

Among those earning TOP SAFETY PICK+ were the Honda Civic 4-door, Honda Accord 2-door and 4-door, Acura RLX, Acura MDX and Honda Odyssey. Earning the award for TOP SAFETY PICK were the Honda Civic 2-door and Acura TL. Fortunately, all eight models can be found at Chapman Acura Tucson.

The 2015 Acura TLX is supposed to be released worldwide late this summer and should be available at Chapman Acura soon after. This car is the new flagship for the North American based subsidiary of Honda. The TLX is a well-rounded luxury sports sedan that will replace the permanently discontinued TL and TSX models.  It has a lot of competition in its class but has several standard features that set it apart. Standard LED lights, Siri eyes free technology, an electronic parking brake and Integrated dynamics system give the TLX some street cred with luxury car critics. The Integrated Dynamics system adjusts throttle response, HVAC operation, steering and transmission shifting in its Econ, Normal, Sport and Spot+ modes. Also standard is quietness. Current Acura owners will be pleasantly surprised at how quiet the new line of Acuras are. The 2015 TLX Engineers said they reduced open-air paths by up to 50%, included acoustic spray foam, Triple door seals, Active Noise Control and an acoustic glass windshield.

The TLX has a ton of optional features as well. Acura has decided to allow each customer to have enough options to make their TLX really stand apart from others. Milano leather interiors, heated and cooled seats and a Collision Mitigation Braking System are just some of the options available. The TLX is offered in front wheel and all wheel drive models. It also comes with 4 and 6-cylinder options. Early reports said that the 2.4-liter four-cylinder model will be paired with an 8-speed dual clutch transmission anda torque converter, which is said to provide an easier and less jerky ride in stop-and-go city traffic. The four cylinder TLX is expected to get 21 city and 34 mpg, which is about a 10% improvement over the TSX it is replacing. The 2015 TLX 6 cylinder (V6) is expected to get 21 city and 34 highway mpg. The basic TLX models have 206 horsepower; the 2015 TLX direct-injected 3.5-liter V-6 has 290 horsepower.

The competition is stiff every year when Consumer Reports compiles their reviews on each car a brand puts on the road. The Annual Car Brand Report Card is designed to help consumers get a high-level look at what brands generally have the most well-built, reliable and top-performing vehicles. It comes as no surprise to car-enthusiasts that Acura, Honda’s luxury division, has again secured a top slot in the annual Brand Report Card. This year, Acura actual rose several spots, beating out Mazda and Subaru over 2013.

The Annual Car Brand Report Card is Consumer Reports’ easy-to-use compilation of reviews. It’s meant to show which brands are the best all-around vehicles in terms of reliability (as judged via an annual survey of Consumer Reports’ 1.1 million subscribers) and road test scores from the publications own test drives and reviews. This year, luxury models reigned supreme, holding the top three spots are Lexus, Acura and Audi.

You can find all of Acura’s sporty, reliable and safe vehicles at Chapman Acura in Tucson. We specialize in bringing you the best of what the world’s automakers have to offer and we’re proud to be your Tucson Acura dealer.

Acura scored a 75 on the report card this year, earning points for its sleek lines, reliability and easy handling. It edged out Audi by one point this year. In fact, the leader in the report card, Lexus, was only 4 points ahead of Acura – making this a very tight race indeed. We expect that this hot competition will only help automakers strive to continue to improve their cars’ safety, performance and reliability.

With such significant shifts in the Report Card from 2013 to 2014 – from mainstream vehicle makers to luxury brands holding top slots – we are eager to see what 2015 brings. Make sure you stop by our showroom today to see the latest advancements Acura has made.
